NewhamWheretoTeach is a website that is run by Newham NEU to assist in choosing a school to work in. It is based around the answers to some basic questions that as a union we believe are important in ensuring decent pay and working conditions for all educators. The questions cover areas that will fundamentally affect the your rights at work – from such things as whether the school follows nationally agreed Pay and Conditions, to if reps are given time to support you should you need it.
However, it is important to note that the questions covered are only one part of what creates fair and decent conditions at work. What your rights are, the rules and agreements in place are all clearly very important – but in our experience the only thing that can ensure these is a strong and active Trade Union group – which you are an essential part of. After all, your rights exist exactly as far as you are able to collectively enforce them.
